Kibumba Tented Camp

About Kibumba

In the southeast corner of Virunga lies the gorilla sector, home to a third of the world’s endangered mountain gorillas. Kibumba Tented Camp, opened in 2017, is the main accommodation for gorilla trekking in Virunga and is located on the misty slopes of Mount Mikeno. Kibumba offers sweeping views of the volcano valley across to the Mitumba Mountains. In addition to Mt. Mikeno, three other Virunga volcanoes are visible to the south: Karisimbi, Nyiragongo and Nyamulagira. The latter two are active volcanoes who grace visitors with their stunning red glow after sundown.

I have worked for Virunga's tourism team since 2015, learning the trade across a number of the lodges; which led to my promotion to manager in 2019. I love working for Virunga as the organisation has offered me a lot of training; not just in tourism but also in scientific disciplines, allowing me to develop my knowledge of both the Park and tourism activities. Not only that but from a personal perspective, the regular income that this employment brings has allowed me to get married and now support my wife and out children.
